The British No.1 sits down with tennis writer Paul Newman…

Once Anne had finished her tournament schedule for 2008 she had time for a few media appointments, one of which was a one-to-one with the Independent’s tennis writer, Paul Newman.

In the interview with the British broadsheet, the 25-year-old talks about her breakthrough year, the places she visited on tour during the last 12 months and gives an insight into her family and how she began playing the sport.

“He’s a big tennis fan,” Anne says of her father, Somsak. “One of the first things he did when he came to England was to go and watch tennis at Wimbledon.

“When I was four my parents took me and my older brother to short tennis classes at the weekend. When I was seven they had free tennis camps in the summer and we played together with friends in the park.”

I might watch a bit of another match on TV, chat with my coaches, listen to music or just read a bit – anything rather than just sitting in the locker-rooms doing nothing.
