Anne was given an early Christmas present by the LTA in December…

Anne Keothavong is celebrating being named the LTA’s 2008 Female Player of the Year.

The 25-year-old was recognised in the governing body’s end-of-season honours list along with fellow high-profile Brits Andy Murray and Laura Robson.

Keothavong has enjoyed a breakthrough year during 2008, rising around 60 positions in the WTA singles rankings to her current career-high listing of No.60.

The Londoner won four ITF titles during the last 12 months – in Italy, Lebanon, Britain and Poland – won a main draw match at Wimbledon and made the third round of the US Open where she toppled Francesca Schiavone.

“This is my first ever LTA award and it’s nice to be recognised for my achievements,” said Keothavong, who is coached by the LTA’s Nigel Sears and Claire Curran.

“It’s been a great year for me but I want next year to be even better.”

Keothavong is busy preparing for her 2009 season and will leave the UK for Australia on Boxing Day.

Ask Anne

Have you ever played in a match where you were winning but had to retire, or your opponent was but retired? What's been the earliest someone's retired in a match you were in whether it was you or the opponent. What did it feel like?

I don’t think I’ve ever been in either of those situations but I’m sure I’ve had a walk-over somewhere… My memory isn’t very good!
