Hungarian world No.25 up first in Tasmania…

Anne Keothavong has arrived in Tasmania for the Moorilla Hobart International, which begins on Sunday January 11.

The British No.1 will face fifth seed and world No.25 Agnes Szavay in the first round of the $220,000 event. They are scheduled as the third match on court one on Monday.

Keothavong will be hoping to build on her excellent run in Auckland over the last week where she reached the second Sony Ericsson WTA Tour semi-final of her career.

Keothavong and Szavay have never played before. The 20-year-old Hungarian began her 2009 season at a Hong Kong exhibition event, the World Team Challenge, which has been taking place during the last few days.

Szavay lost to Argentine Gisela Dulko 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 on Thursday and went down to India’s Sania Mirza 6-3, 6-4 on Friday.

Keothavong is also playing doubles in Hobart. The 25-year-old will team up with Italian Mara Santangelo and they have a tough first assignment against top seeds Alona and Kataryna Bondarenko from Ukraine.
