Keothavong emphasises the power of thinking positively…

The British broadsheet the Daily Telegraph features an interview with Anne today which focuses on the methods she has used to scale the women’s world rankings in the last 12 months.

In particular, the 25-year-old Londoner talks to the newspaper’s tennis writer Mark Hodgkinson about her sessions with mental skills trainer Richard De Souza, a Beckenham GP.

“Everyone can hit great forehands and backhands,” Keothavong tells Hodgkinson, “but it’s what goes on in your head that matters, especially at crucial times in the match.

“The one thing that has improved out of sight has been my confidence. I believe in myself now. The wins I’ve had contributed to that. But I’ve also done a lot of work with Richard, who has been helping me on the mental side.”

Ask Anne

Have you ever played in a match where you were winning but had to retire, or your opponent was but retired? What's been the earliest someone's retired in a match you were in whether it was you or the opponent. What did it feel like?

From: Alex

I don’t think I’ve ever been in either of those situations but I’m sure I’ve had a walk-over somewhere… My memory isn’t very good!
