Keothavong scoops inaugural AEGON award…
British No.1 Anne Keothavong has won the first ever AEGON player award after a successful start to 2009.
The AEGON Awards seek to recognise a British player and British junior who have had an outstanding month on court along with the coach who has been deemed to have had the greatest impact on British tennis.
The winners are selected by a judging panel headed up by the LTA’s Head Coaches of Men’s and Women’s Tennis along with the LTA’s Head of Coaching.
Keothavong won the player award, Olly Golding took the junior player award and Barry Scollo scooped the coach award.
Anne made a great start to 2009 when she reached the semi-finals of the ASB Classic in New Zealand, which pushed her up to a career-high world ranking of No.53. The 25-year-old Londoner also stands at a doubles ranking high of No.123.
Anne is currently in Estonia preparing for Great Britain’s 2009 Fed Cup campaign.
She and fellow team-mates Elena Baltacha, Mel South and Sarah Borwell are competing in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I which gets under way on Wednesday.
