Czech beats Anne in Madrid…

Anne Keothavong lost her second round contest at the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open against Czech Lucie Safarova on Tuesday night.

The Czech left-hander, at No.50 in the world ranked seven spots above the Londoner, came through 6-1, 7-5 in an hour and 12 minutes.

Safarova raced through the first set, breaking Keothavong twice, but had to work much harder in the second.

Keothavong led 4-1 and 5-4 but could do nothing as Safarova hit back to wrap up a straight-sets victory to set up a third round meeting with either top seed and world No.1 Dinara Safina or China’s Li Na.

Keothavong will now move onto Warsaw for next week’s Sony Ericsson WTA Tour clay court event, her final tournament before the French Open which begins on May 25.

Ask Anne

If you could choose a tennis legend to play in an exhibition match, who would it be and why? And do you think you could win?

From: Robert

I would probably want to play against Billie Jean King as she is the reason why we have a women’s tennis tour and she’s a genuine legend in the world of sport. I think the game has moved on a lot over…
