Keothavong storms into round two
Anne outlasts Mattek-Sands…
Anne Keothavong booked her place in the second round of the Warsaw Open on Monday with a hard-fought victory over American Beth Mattek-Sands.
The Londoner enjoyed a straightforward first set before gutsing out an impressive 6-2, 7-6(4) victory over the seventh seed at the $600,000 clay court event.
Keothavong’s reward is a second round meeting with either American Jill Craybas or Edina Gallovits from Romania.
“I’m pleased with my performance overall today and felt like I served well when I needed to,” said the world No.56 from Middlesex
“I just tried to stay as relaxed as possible and had a song in my head which I just sang along to instead of getting frustrated at times!
“My next match won’t be until Wednesday so I’ll just watch my potential opponent play and practice a bit until then.”
