Anne battles past Craybas…

Anne Keothavong is through to the last eight in Warsaw after a spirited second round performance at the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Premier event on Wednesday.

The British No.1 backed up Monday’s victory over seventh seed Beth Mattek-Sands with another victory over an American, this time outlasting Jill Craybas 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 to go through to the quarter-finals at the $600,000 clay court event.

Keothavong’s reward is a meeting with either German Julia Goerges or Romanian qualifier Ioana Raluca Olaru in her next match.

The winner of that contest will go through to play either eighth seed Alona Bondarenko or wild card Maria Sharapova in the semis.

The Londoner is currently ranked No.56 in the world after a strong start to the year. She made the semis in Auckland and Memphis and peaked at a career-high listing of 48 in February.

“I’m really pleased to be through to the quarters of a Premier WTA Tour event, especially on clay,” Anne said.

“I’m so pleased with the way I kept fighting out there. Jill has been around for a long time, has plenty of experience and is a tough opponent to break down but I managed to do that today by being patient and mixing it up.

“I’m feeling great and looking forward to whoever I play tomorrow.”
