Keothavong and Borwell go through

Brits into Eastbourne quarters…

Anne Keothavong and Sarah Borwell made a successful start to their AEGON International doubles campaign in Eastbourne on Monday.

The British pair took advantage of a late change to their opponents by beating Polish team Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska 7-6(4), 6-3 at Devonshire Park late on day two.

The Brits had expected to go up against the $600,000 grass court event’s second seeds Kveta Peschke and Lisa Raymond before they withdrew at the last minute.

It was a case of sweet revenge for Keothavong and Borwell, who had lost to Jans and Rosolska in a deciding rubber in a crucial Fed Cup tie back in February.

The Poles made a strong start, racing into a 4-1 lead before the home favourites found their range to wrap up victory in an hour and 21 minutes.

Keothavong and Borwell go through to face Ai Sugiyama and Akgul Amanmuradova who beat Gisela Dulko and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in their first round contest.
