Keothavong draws Mayr
Anne to take on Austrian at Wimbledon…
Anne Keothavong now knows who will be facing her in the first round at Wimbledon after the draw was made on Friday.
The British No.1 must get past Austrian world No.81 Patricia Mayr if she is to equal last year’s performance at the All England Club when she won a round before losing to Venus Williams.
Keothavong and the 22-year-old from Innsbruck have never met before and the winner will go through to face either Russian 32nd seed Anna Chakvetadze or German Sabine Lisicki in round two.
“She’s a player I don’t know a lot about,” Keothavong wrote in her pre-Wimbledon blog.
“Some people have told me she’s a slow court player, but Nigel Sears went to watch her and said she gives it a smack!
“Anyhow, I’ll just be concentrating on doing my own thing out there. As draws go it could be worse, but it’ll only be a good draw if I shake hands on Tuesday having won the match.”
A potential third round opponent would be fifth seed and French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia.
The doubles draw for the Championships has also been made and Keothavong and Britain’s Sarah Borwell will play the third seeds Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs from Australia.
As well as the singles and doubles, Keothavong will also be playing mixed doubles with Ross Hutchins.
