Keothavong heads Stateside
British No.1 prepares for Stanford…
Anne Keothavong leaves for the USA on Tuesday, looking forward to returning to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in Stanford, California, next week.
The Londoner lines up in the $600,000 Premier Bank of the West Classic at Stanford University which features 32 of the best players in the world.
The Williams sisters return to competition after their Wimbledon showdown, along with Maria Sharapova, Elena Dementieva and Jelena Jankovic.
After spending time training following her early exit at Wimbledon, Keothavong says she’s looking forward to competing again.
“I always really enjoy my summer stint in the States even though it’s a long time to be away from home,” the 25-year-old said.
“My first tournament will be in Stanford and I’ll have almost a week to get ready and acclimatise there before it kicks off.
“I’ll just take each match as it comes, there will be no easy opponents and the field each week will be incredibly strong.
“I’m feeling fit and ready to compete again so will keep everyone updated in my blogs and Twitter!”
After Stanford, Keothavong will stay in California to play at the LA Women’s Tennis Championships.
Her summer schedule after that includes the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open in Cincinnati, the Rogers Cup in Canada, the Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven before heading to New York for the US Open in late August.
