Anne is through to the semi-finals in Memphis for the second year running

Anne Keothavong produced another superb display to defeat Karolina Sprem 6-4 6-3 and make the semi-finals of the WTA Cellular South Cup.

The British No.3 has not dropped a set on her run to the last four, and quashed the threat of hard-hitting Sprem in 71 minutes.

“Karolina didn’t give me much rhythm and is one of the hardest hitters out there on the Tour,” said the 26-year-old. “But I was able to stand my ground and hustle for every point which got me through the match.”

Keothavong converted all four of the break points she earned on the Croatian’s serve to make the Memphis semi-finals for the second year in succession. And after six months out with a serious knee injury, she admitted her surprise at the strength of her comeback.

“This week has been better than I expected and I’m so pleased to have reached the semis of another WTA Tournament, especially my first one back after time out through injury,” she said.

“Every match here has been a bonus and I’m growing with confidence.”

In the last four, Keothavong will face 26-year-old Sofia Arvidsson for the eighth time on the WTA tour, hoping to bring their head-to-head record level at four wins apiece.

“My semi-final match against Sofia Arvidsson is a great opportunity for both of us,” she said.

“She’s a good friend and we’ve played each other many times right from the junior days so I know what to expect. I’m looking forward to the challenge and really want to get through to a WTA final.”
