Anne bows out in Fes quarters

A positive week for the British No.3 ends at the hands of Alize Cornet

Anne Keothavong has been defeated by Alize Cornet of France in the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament in Fes, Morocco.

The former world No.11 – currently ranked at No.84 – opened up a 4-1 lead over in the first set, only for 26-year-old Keothavong to fight back with four games in a row.

But when Keothavong failed to serve out the set, Cornet capitalised, holding out for the first set before bossing the second to claim a 7-5 6-2 victory.

The Londoner, who had reached the last eight of the Grand Prix De Sar La Princesse Lalla Meryem after opponent Carla Suarez Navarro retired injured, was featuring in the quarter-finals of a WTA tournament for the second time this year, having made the semi-final stage in Memphis in February.

Keothavong next heads to Rome, where she’ll face Italian Alice Moroni in the first round of qualifying for the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Friday.

My six-year-old daughter is playing very well & has been picked for the futures team with her tennis club. What advice would you give her and us on the best path to take for her to reach her full potential & hopefully become like yourself?
