Anne through to Nottingham quarters
Anne reaches the last eight of the ITF $50,000 event in Nottingham
Anne Keothavong comfortably progressed to the quarter-finals of the Aegon Trophy on Thursday after defeating fellow Brit Naomi Broady in Nottingham.
The British No.3 dropped just four games in her first meeting with 20-year-old Broady to ease to a 6-2 6-2 victory.
“I don’t expect too much of myself this week but I’m pleased to be in the quarter-finals,” said Keothavong, who had endured a tougher test in her opening match against Valerie Savinykh on Wednesday.
“My intensity was a bit better than yesterday’s and I had to be on my toes. It was the first time I’ve played Naomi and I knew she’d had some good results in the past but I started to read her serve better and I was the more consistent player.”
Keen to get as many grass court matches under her belt as possible before turning her attentions to bigger tournaments in Birmingham and Eastbourne, Keothavong next faces 24-year-old Czech Sandra Zahlavova – who she has defeated in all three of their previous meetings – for a place in the last four.
“I’m just playing my way into the tournament and every match I can get is a bonus,” she added.
