Anne retirement "a precaution"
The British No.2 retires injured in Nottingham, but hopes to be fit for Birmingham
Anne Keothavong was forced to retire from her quarter-final clash with Sandra Zahlavova in Nottingham after pulling up with injury.
The British No.2 – seeded seventh at the AEGON Trophy – retired in the second set while trailing 6-4 3-3.
“It’s my hip,” admitted the 26-year-old afterwards. “It’s been a little bit sore and I felt it in the match.”
Keothavong had been due to contest the doubles semi-final with partner Melanie South, but withdrew from their last-four clash with eventual champions Raquel Kops-Jones and Sarah Borwell.
“Retiring and pulling out of the doubles is really disappointing but with so many big tournaments coming up it’s a precaution I felt I had to take,” said Keothavong.
“Hopefully with some good treatment and a few days’ rest I should be fine for Birmingham.”
