Anne set for Rodionova test
Anne prepares to face 28-year-old Aussie Anastasia Rodionova at Wimbledon
Looking forward to her match in spite of the added pressure of four British women exiting Wimbledon on day one, Anne Keothavong faces Anastasia Rodionova at midday today hoping to be the first Brit to book a spot in round two.
“It’s obviously going to be tough match because she’s a tough opponent but if I’m playing well then I’ll fancy my chances,” said the 26-year-old Londoner, who is confident a partisan crowd will see her through to round two for the third time in her career.
“I know all eyes will be on me and that sort of pressure should be a privilege. There is pressure this fortnight and, playing in front of my home crowd, I want to show people what I’m capable of.”
Almost a year after a serious knee injury sidelined her for much of 2009, Keothavong is relishing the chance to be back amongst the best at SW19.
“I’ve worked so hard over the past year to get myself fit and have this opportunity, to be out there with the best players in the world competing in this environment,” said Keothavong.
“To win would mean so much, it would make all the hard work well worth it.”
