Hercog clinches the win

Defeated in the singles, Anne still has a doubles semi-final to look forward to in Copenhagen

Despite a flying start, Anne Keothavong bowed out of the inaugural e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open in Copenhagen after losing 4-6 6-0 6-4 to world No.48 Polona Hercog.

“I started off incredibly well in today’s match, it was just unfortunate I couldn’t keep it up,” said the 26-year-old Brit. “Polona played smart and used her serve well – she’s a good player.”

The Londoner had defeated Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson in her opening round match in the Danish capital – her first main draw tour win since she beat Pauline Parmentier at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham in June.

“I can take a bit of confidence from the singles matches I’ve had here this week,” said Keothavong. “There’s been a slight improvement compared to how I’ve been playing the last few weeks and I hope I can build on it.”

Keothavong still has a chance of success in Copenhagen after she and fellow Brit Anna Smith followed up their scalp over second seeds Marina Erakovic and ten-time Grand Slam champ Cara Black with victory over home favourite Caroline Wozniacki and partner Malou Ejdesgard.

“The atmosphere was great except no one was supporting us,” said Keothavong after the British duo booked a spot in the semi-finals. “It’s been good fun playing with Anna this week and we’re going to go for it tomorrow.”

Ask Anne

Do you change your playing style to adapt to different surfaces?

From: Grahame

You have to adjust to the speed and bounce of the court but I still try and play like an aggressive baseliner whatever the surface.
