Anne Keothavong and Anna Smith are edged out in Copenhagen

Anne Keothavong and partner Anna Smith’s impressive doubles run at the Eboks Sony Ericsson Open came to an end today after the pair were beaten 6-4 6-7(0) 10-5 by fourth seeds Vitalia Diatchenko and Tatiana Poutchek.

“We came so close to winning and we fought hard but it didn’t happen for us today,” said Keothavong. “We started playing better once we were a set and 5-2 down and we played a faultless tie break in the second set to win it.

“In the super tie break we were a bit unlucky, they got three net cords and we made a few simple errors that cost us.”

The British duo had a magnificent run in the doubles competition in Copenhagen, defeating second seeds Marina Erakovic and ten-time Grand Slam champ Cara Black in straight sets before downing home favourite Caroline Wozniacki and her partner Malou Ejdesgard in the last eight.

“We can still take positives from this week though as a doubles team, making semis isn’t too bad and its been good fun playing with Anna,” added the 26-year-old Londoner.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to play more often together if our schedule’s work out because we could be a good team.”
