Anne gears up for NY opener
Anne is second up on Court 14 at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday
Anne Keothavong will take on Yung-Jan Chan of Chinese Taipei today (Tuesday) in her first match at the US Open since making the third round in 2008.
“I’m really excited to be here and, coming back from injury, it’s a good opportunity for me to be here in the main draw and have that chance to give it a go,” said Keothavong.
“My opponent is an experienced doubles player and is a Grand Slam doubles finalist, and she’s also a very good singles player too, so it’s going to be a tough match.
“She’s ranked 77th in the world and she hits it hard and flat through the court. Although I have never played against her before I have practised quite a bit with her in the past and I’ve got a rough idea of what I’ve got to do to win the match.”
The 26-year-old Londoner, who missed the chance to build on her third round best at last year’s tournament after injuring her knee, is happy to be back amongst the pack at the New York Slam.
“The main thing for me is that I am fit and healthy and I can give myself a chance by getting out there on the court and giving it a good shot. I’m feeling good about where my game is at the moment. I am happy to be here and looking forward to just getting out there.”
